The layout is one of the key determining factors which decide how much a site is balanced. Putting the heavy & light web design elements in correct positions is the central factor in layout designing with emphasis on how various elements are placed & their format.

In website designing, layouts are of 6 basic types, with usual scheme of 3 or more layouts combined for creating the final site design. This article looks at these layout types and how website designing service providers use them for designing a website, be it static website designing, dynamic website designing or flash website designing.
  1. Symmetrical Layout
  2. Asymmetrical Layout
  3. Isolative Layout
  4. Dominative Layout
  5. Radiative Layout
  6. Repetition Layout
Symmetrical Layout
This form of layout is normally considered balanced & formal with forming symmetry by placement of various page elements on any of the sides or keeping them centre aligned. If there are heavy elements on the right side of webpage then it should be balanced by placing appropriate elements on the left also. However care should be taken to make sure that literally similar elements are not placed at both sides. In this format complete symmetry is gained when the layout is either uniformly segregated in vertical & horizontal manner or is centered.

Asymmetrical Layout

As the name suggests, in this form of layout the elements are placed in uneven manner. It could be right, center or left, whichever manner the website designing company likes to put them on the webpage. This form of website design is dynamic & by overlooking the symmetry of movements, a certain type of tension can be developed & also particular expression could be conveyed to visitors.

Isolative Layout

In this type of layout any of the following elements; symbols, logos, important pictures or product images are placed on the page in small shape and size. These elements could be placed in any space on the page depending on element's usage factor & visibility.

Dominative Layout

In dominative layout form, the symbol, logo, product image or other pictures are placed on the page as enlarged size elements, thereby making them the main factor to attract attention.

Radiative Layout

Here the image, content, logo or symbol could be highlighted by use of flashing effects or attractive lights to make that element main attention grabber for the page.

Repetition Layout

In this layout format multiple elements or any particular element is repeated more than once on similar pages on the website. This way emphasis can be placed on an element that needs repetition for enhanced visibility & holds important place on the website.
